Forever as long as your pour OUT of the bottle and never.....
put a spoon with anything on it into the bottle...not that vanilla bottles have large openings but I decantered once into bottles that fit tightly when we lived aboard our yacht...Large opening encouraged someone to stick the spoon in and things started to go a bit ugh looking so I had to toss that vanilla.
Here's my list. Any suggestions gratefully accepted.
Both daughters are teachers and do bake but are usually pressed for time. Kids ages range from 5 to 18. Some like raisins some dont. They need 10 treats daily (including Moms and Dads)
My mom and dad too, were very good to me and were very close
to my kids - baby sat while I worked, cooked, helped with the housekeeping, etc. so I was lucky also. The only way to repay them I think is to pass it on.
Elenor, this recipe from Farmgirlfare for Crazy Cookies is a good use for all those half bags of
various choc chips and coconut that we all seem to gather up. I just made some this past weekend using butterscotch chips and mini choc chips and a few stray dark choc chips and coconut. I have thrown in toffee chips and white choc chips too, if I have some to use up.
I also had just one stick of butter(mercy me!), so I used 1/2 c oil with the melted butter---just fine.
I was raised on a farm, way out in the country. We only went to the grocery store once a
month so really stocked up then. My mom used to buy her extracts and spices from the traveling Watkins salesman who went door to door back in those days. Mom always bought vanilla by the GALLON! I kid you not! There were only 3 of us kids so even though she baked a lot, it still would last her for years. I still have some of those old 1-gallon bottles labeled with Watkins' Vanilla as my friends never believe me when I tell them this story. The first time I ever saw a regular-sized bottle at a friend's house who lived in the city, I cracked up because it was so small. Had no idea you could buy such a tiny amount of vanilla. Yours is still good!
Oh Ya! I remember the Watkins man and those huge bottles of wonderful-smelling
vanilla. I used to sit on the stool by the radiator (it was cold on the prairies) next to my mom making cookies. She'd give me about 10 whiffs of the bottle each time she made cookies.
