Q: Pat's Butterscotch Yams w/canned yams?

I'm still working on getting well so movin slow. One of the things I've been asked to bring to xmas dinner is Yams and thought I'd try Pat's recipe this year. I was wondering if anyone has subbed canned yams as a shortcut?http://eat.at/swap/forum20/49_Butterscotch_Yams

My sister-in-law says she's done them with canned sometimes and says they're fine. I'd say give

try if time is too tight to go with fresh.
