Questino re: Olive Oil dispensers...

Should I have thought of this first? I bought a tall, rectangular glass bottle with a spout to keep olive oil next to the stove.

Now the oil's gone. Tried washing the bottle with hot water, dishsoap and shaking. Still oil inside. How do you clean it? Won't the leftover oil in the jar go rancid? Should I have thought of this in the first place?

Thanks!

Debbie

best bet woud be to get a bottle washer

this is like a giant pipe cleaner. Will allow you to put soap and water in jar and then get in a scrub out remaining oil.

Debbie, maybe I am not fastidious enough, but I just refill my glass bottle

with new olive oil. I have done this for at least a year and a half (it was a xmas present)and the oil is fine. I have never had a problem with any off oil at all. Now that you have brought it to my attention though, I am looking at my bottle in a new way. Thanks so much! (smile) I refill my soy sauce bottle the same way too. Hmmm.

I put mine in the dishwasher. like Dawn, I refill and only wash it out completely..

every 6 mos. unless you have it in sunlight, it will be fine.

I have a bulbous glass one with a superfine spout and a neck too narrow for much of a brush. I soak

it in hot soapy water after rinsing a dozen times with hot water. Next day, I rinse with with the hot soapy again and whatver wants to leave the bottle, does. There is always a bit that won't budge. But as long as the bottle smells clean, I'm okay with it.

Don't you love it when people tell you what you want to hear?

I'll break down and clean it once a year - great ideas!

Thanks!
Debbie

Cleaning my olive oil dispenser is no longer a problem, since I accidently broke it into a million

pieces on the floor and had a huge olive oil slick. Happened earlier this week and cleaning the floor took forever. I'm not sure I want another olive oil dispenser, at least not for a while. smileys/smile.gif
