Question about Easy Off Oven Cleaner...

For the past several years, I've been using an oven that's not self-cleaning. I've been using Easy Off to clean it, but have never cleaned the oven racks with it. Can I use it on the racks? (The instructions say nothing).

I have. I've sprayed it on both sides of the racks and placed them

in my bathtub for a while (hour or so) before using a nylon scrubbie with rubber gloves on and cleaned them. Rinse the bath tub well afterwards and wipe down with paper towels.

I do it in the garage and rinse in the utility sink with gloves. I sure wish they still made the

brush-on version my mom used to use. When dealing with racks, most of the spray gets lost.

My oven is self-cleaning but I've been warned by repairmen not to clean the racks that way--it will compromise the steel. "They'll sag and break with the Thanksgiving turkey."

I always put them on newpaper in the yard and sprayed them with easy off...also

I could swear someplace back likely on Gail's someone posted how to clean a bbq rack using easy-off in a big plastic garbage bag. Can't find it though.

Not that I could do that today (funny though I was going to clean the oven today) because it's wind/raining cats and dogs.

I have. I have also had luck using it really icky pots that perhaps had something

burn in them or had an extra build up of grease / oil that were not cleaning with sponge / soap.

A friend who uses it on gas cooktop grates puts the grates in a large heavy-duty trash bag. Closes

it with a twist tie and lets them sit overnight. Says it works beautifully, should work for the racks. Leave the bag outside.

I think the newer "Cold Oven Cleaner" is less corrosive & o.k.

The old EZ Off was lye. The trash bag tip is also terrific for your outdoor grill grates.

I put my oven racks in laundry lub, covering them with very hot water and lots of dish washer soap.

I leave them over night or longer, if possible. The burnt stuff almost floats off. A little SOS where they are stuborn. My oven has auto clean but I never leave racks in - they get very dull.

A bit scary, but this works--I have went to work with ovens that had many years

of crust and yuck. Take a small glass or stainless container, put a cup+ of straight ammonia in it. Place in oven and close door for 20+ hours. With a straight spatula the yuck will just scrape away. Maybe a mesh scrubbie on the racks?
Agree with Joe about the old EasyOff, was great when you are in a hurry, do not like spray stuff.

I don't think it can. I just read on the Easy Off site to put foil around the elements

while cleaning. Good idea!
