Question about recipe formats (and hello) :D

Hello all,

After a short burst of activity, I kinda disappeared. Sorry about that. Life does get complicated at times! I've been in regular touch with a few of you on twitter (I'm either @vavroom or @wgchef, if you want to follow me smileys/smile.gif )

I've finally launched my food/cooking website, and I have a couple recipes to compile, but which leave me with a question:

If a recipe calls for sub-recipes, do you want everything on the same page, or do you prefer to have the different recipes independent? For example, if a recipe calls for mashed potatoes and choux paste, should it say "1 cup mashed potatoes", and "1/2 cup choux paste", with links to the respective recipes, or should it list ingredients for mashed potatoes, then ingredients for choux paste, then methods for one and for the other?

Or are there other ways to present recipes you prefer?

From my point of view, it is MUCH easier to write separate recipes and link to them than to repeat the information each time a recipe calls for "mashed potatoes".

Anyway, I await your verdict smileys/smile.gif

Cheers

Nic

Hi Vavroom. I usually prefer the separate recipes, but on the same page...

So you could say "1 recipe choux paste, below," and paste the basic recipe further down.

If it's something that comes up very often, or something that everyone already has their own recipe for, like lemon curd or pie dough, then maybe a link would be more appropriate.

I actually like links. maybe I have my own pastry recipe and don't need another. makes for shorter

posts.

Got it smileys/smile.gif

All right, I got it smileys/smile.gif

I think I'll do it this way:

In the main recipe, say something like:

* 1 cup choux paste (recipe below)

Then after the main recipe, display the choux paste recipe. This is relatively easy to do for me, and looks like a winner for all. Except AngAk!

It'll refine this process later on smileys/smile.gif

Thanks for the feedback smileys/smile.gif

I aim to please smileys/smile.gif

Thanks for linking to the site, BTW smileys/smile.gif

Depends on who your audience is. If you're talking to chefs & advanced cooks

it's likely you won't have to include a recipe for 'mashed potatoes'. From what I remember, your plating and style of cooking seems more chef/peer-oriented. There are very few of those blogs out there, which would give you a nice niche.

Glad you like it, Heather. It was fun to work on.)

Thank you Nic for your restraint in not posting the link! When you told me you had posted on FK, I immediately logged in here because I was going to delete your post! lol And possibly ban you. ;o)

Thanks Heather. ;o)
