Question about shipping cookies

I would like to send packages of home made cookies to some freshman in college (part of the mentoring program I'm in where I help teaching cooking skills) as well as to a customer support staff at my online store's hosting service - these guys are amazing.

Anyway...I don't have a clue how 'fresh' the cookies will be once arrived. I'd like to send them using USPS flat rate box to save $$ (UPS two day would cost a mint I'm afraid).

Any tips on how best to pack, how long they would stay fresh, etc. would be appreciated.

Thanks:) Deb

Hi Deb, I mailed a couple of practice cookies boxes when we were doing OCD. A couple

of things I found out are:

*mail substantial cookies like oatmeal and peanut butter
*pack the box with bubble wrap to keep cookies from rattling around and to cushion a bit
*I stacked my cookies the length of the box, wrapped the stack in saran then wrapped in foil, then laid stacks side by sidein the box

I mailed from VA to AL successfully on the practice runs!

Hope this helps some. I know you will get a lot more good suggestions from the gang here!

I send cookies all the time, Deb. Our local post office sends all packages west

no matter which direction they're going. The pkg then takes an extra day to go east. The P.O. three miles away sends all pkgs. east. You may want to call your local po and see if this dumb practice applies where you live.
I wrap 3-4 cookies in plastic wrap and put them in a tin or heavy plastic container. I pack so there's no space between. Sometimes, if the cookies are delicate, I put a little bubble wrap on top and bottom. Then just fit the containers snugly in the box.

Never had a problem.

I've even heard of putting popcorn in ziplocs and using those for "filler" instead of bubble wrap

I'd volunteer to be a sample reciever. You know, to see if your packing was effective. > >

Two or three dozen should be sufficient. Feel free to send a variety of sizes and flavors, just to be sure.

Why would I go out of my way to help? What can I say, I'm a giver.
