Question: How much do you spend on food? I had a chat with a friend of mine yesterday and

she and her husband budget $5,000/mo for dining out. They eat at home too, but this is their dining out expense. Another friend of mine spends about $6,000/mo.

Back when I used to roll with these folks, I'd cringe every time the bill came. They make much more money than me, but after doing the math, I'm still blown away. Does that sound like a lot of money to you?

Yes, an obscene amount, but if that pleases them, I can't fault it. It is

obviously in pretty fine restaurants.

Yes, that sounds like a LOT of money to me. . .

Wow, to have too much money! smileys/smile.gif

I'd like to have that much to spend on going out. I'd like to have 1/3 that amount to spend on going out to dinner!

I spend 99 cents each morning on a DD coffee and every few days I get

an egg white McMuffin and senior coffee at McD for $3.68.

I used to spend a LOT more eating out but I'm just not happy any longer with the food, service, higher prices and the resulting obligatory tip that follows. A New Orleans restaurant recently opened here in town and a girl was waiting in front of me getting coffee at DD said the po'boy cost $18.

$18! FOR A SANDWICH.

On the other hand, my friend lives in Los Gatos, a high-end community near San Fran. Many of their friends are millionaires and $10,000 has been spend on weekend trips to Napa.

It's all relative, I guess.

I had another thought on this: if some of the $5000 is spent taking customers out, it can

Be tagged as a business meal and written off as a tax deduction.

We had lunch once with a deep tissue therapist who had been working on Larry's back and my frozen shoulders. He grabbed the bill at the end and said it was a business expense because he wanted to keep us as clients.

Ordering expensive wines, etc can ramp up the cost of a meal quickly.

Ha! Nope. Nice try. That's completely personal expenses for 2 people who enjoy good food & cocktails
