Question. I just had an odd experience with some type of bug in my flour

I made two chocolate pies and noticed little bits of what I thought was flour, and tried for quite a while to whisk away the bits into the mixture. Finally, I took some out and put my finger on it and it was little bugs. I looked into my flour container, but there were no bugs. I finally put some flour and water in a saucepan and boiled it and there were these little light brown bugs that you could hardly see. I bought the flour yesterday, it was on sale and the name of it was White Wing. Would anyone know what type of bug this is?

I've learned to freeze all flours/grains for 3 days after purchase. I'd return yours if you still

have a receipt.

I still had the receipt in my purse, so I'll take it back, but I won't

buy this brand anymore. I've never heard of millers. I keep my flour in an airtight container, maybe I should start keeping it in the freezer, however, I've never had this happen before.
Thanks for the information.

I think it happens with almost any flour/grits/milled product. And this is

getting to be the season for them to come out. Freezing for just a little while as someone said will kill the larvae. We also get weevils at times. Bad in the summer.

Always a problem here in humid, warm "paradise." Pasta, flour, cornmeal, cereal, rice...

oatmeal, you name it. I freeze ingredients as I buy them and keep some of the lesser-used ones in my freezer always. Others I vacuum seal but mostly I buy in smallest quantities to keep everything as fresh as possible.

It is one of the prices of "paradise", these critters. Isn't it frightening to know there are eggs in the foods we consume?

Cathy, We live in Houston, very humid here, but I've never had this

problem before and it was a new bag of flour. Evidentally it had sat in the store for a while. Years ago, I had weevils, but these critters were new to me. Guess I'll pop my flour in the freezer from now on.
