Question: reusing tea tins...

I've collected quite a few Twinings tea tins (100 and 200 gram sizes--I drink a lot of tea). They are too beautiful and substantial to toss out. Anyone found a use for all the empty little tea tins? I thought about using them for spices, but I already have most of them corraled in their own containers. Can't just throw them out. After being raised by my frugal depression era grandmother, I've learned better.

Well...

I had the same problem and so I used them to put plants in and it worked great. Small plants like philodendron worked well and lasted for many many years until I killed the plant. The tin never leaked or rusted through or anything and it was perfect for the kitchen.

I use for other 'spices' and blends, great for things like nutmegs that are larger. Some for bulk candies on my desk at work - like red hots.

I'm like you, I was taught to keep things and reuse them so I have this whole stash of tins and jars that my husband just can't understand.

i'd reconsider the spice idea.

opaque storage is best for storage and a lable maker would make for easiness on the eyes.

why am i thinking about easiness on the eyes this morning?

I too, cannot throw away a pretty tin, box, or jar or bottle..................

right now I have paper clips, map pins and other small office stuff tins hard candy came in. I have spare keys in a pretty tea tin. Cake decorating tips, etc in a bigger one that Applets come in, do use some for spices that come from Penzeys in bags.
Hey, I just thought of somewhere to put some flower seeds I am going to harvest.
I have never made potpourri, but that would be a nice container for some for gifts?
Gee, I might run out of containers!

Glue the tins together in a pleasing manner, mount on a wall. Use as a magnetic bulletin board.

You could make it as large or small as you want.

I too have MANY tins - I put delicate christmas ornaments in them to pack away - they won't crush

I use the big ones for storing things I buy from those bulk bins at the market. Also...

I put packages of chocolate chips in them. Especially if the package is opened. Less temptation for me and other inquiring mouths!

Kinda funny use: My mom, who died in 1996, saved LOTS of these, so...

when we got her ashes and were ready to scatter them we divided them into many of her tea tins. We went to one of her favorite spots and each family member got to disperse some of the ashes.

Thanks for all the suggestions...

I've cleaned out a drawer in a cabinet that used to contain all the dog treats, rawhides, new tennis balls, etc. (sorry Siegfried), and it now contains rows of tea tins labled with bulk herbs from garden, etc.
