made him this mug in a pottery class and he just dropped it, casuing a hairline crack the full length of the mug. Is ther a glue or glaze that is food safe that can be used to repair it?

Thanks a lot!!

I just repaired 3 mugs with Gorilla Glue. LOVE that stuff. Just be sure not to put too much on or

it will ooze out and leave an unattractive residue.

That's what happened to me. I ruined a teapot lid because the glue isn't as obvious

when wet as when dry. It becomes an opaque yellowish hard glue. And expanded slightly because I used too much so now the lid doesn't fit precisely.

But the stuff does hold and hot liquids and steam don't affect it. Just use a little.

Is the crack on the inside?

And, does it go all the way through to the outside?

I use E6000 to repair breaks on pottery, but adding hot liquids may weaken the repair.

I'd suggest that if he puts some glue into the crack that he use the mug for non-food purposes...like a pencil holder.

If he has a Michael's store near, they have a good chart for what glue to use where.

I find that putting the thinnest layer possible, then clamping in some way (rubber bands work well)

give me the best, cleanest results. Also, be sure to wipe off the excess after you've clamped. Worst case scenario, you can use a small nail file or emery board to get rid of the visible excess.
