Rachael Ray week in a day, 3 in a bag....

... RR can get on my nerves sometimes (particularly when she insists on throwing salt over her shoulder every single time, her kitchen floor could become a salt mine) - but I tend to tape her shows because some of her recipes have been pretty tasty and are obviously great for busy days

anyway, if anyone watch these shows, have you noticed how she has been using her hands to do gestures following almost every single word she says? It is so different from her old style, I mean she's always used her hands while speaking, I tend to do that quite a bit too, but in these new shows it seems that someone has been coaching her to do it a lot more forcefully, almost as if she would be doing a type of "sign language" smileys/wink.gif

I even showed my husband yesterday the opening of one of these shows to see if he noticed, and he said "yeah, it's weird and quite unnatural"

Has anyone else noticed?

Yes, poor gal, I think she is over worked, over used, and I am sure

not comfortable with the extra pounds. I have made many of her recipes and I do like them....full of flavor, healthy for the most part, and easy. I've always felt that she was not as self-assured as many of the other cooks and chefs.

At first, when she was everywhere at once, I attributed it to how they...

...typically market someone who has caught the public's attention and whose ratings reflect that. The marketing machine kicks into high gear, and everyone, including the celebrity, seems like they are milking the heck out of it while it lasts. Get the most money flowing, since so many burn out and fade away.

What's it been now, 10 years? 15?

I'm amazed she's still on that horse.

Oh, I am taking that into account....

.... and if you look at her old shows, you can see the "Sicilian" on her, but now the Sicilian went a bit nuts...

I cannot quite understand the mechanism behind the change, but I suspect she took some public speech "lessons" and took a few of the pointers too literally smileys/wink.gif

I can tell when she hasn't had enough coffee, very subdued.

She also might be trying to give up smoking and needs to do something with her hands.

Agree....

.... it happened with Emeril, he was on ALL THE TIME, used, over-used, over exposed to the point that one more BAM and I would throw a head of cauliflower on the TV

It is surprising that Rachael is still hanging on, not only with several shows on FoodTV, but her magazine (which stinks, sorry to say), and her talk show, which I am not even sure is still going on.

She must work 16 hours per day...

Now, if only FoodTV would stop with all the silly "reality type" competition shows, and bring back cooking bits like Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, Two Hot Tamales, my all time favorite David Rosengarten's Taste... (sigh)

She does have a daily TV talk show that has won a good

many Emmys. Not really a one trick pony, and she herself has never called herself a "chef". She saved the Food Network in its early days--for a believable approachable cooking show. The new book out about Food TV talks about that aspect.

Oh, I can hear my dear deceased friend, Flavia, saying that!!!

That was the most derogatory thing she could think to say about someone. Good memories smileys/smile.gif
