RE. 22.7.1. Reposting of old Swap recipes...some ideas

Since this discussion was buried amid soup recipes I thought I'd give it it's own thread. Several people have said they want to re-post old favorite swap recipes. Someone said they'd like it to be organized somehow, though.

My response was: If you want a more organized way of doing it, I can create a second forum just for re-posting the favorite recipes. So when you are on this screen (after you login): http://www.finerkitchens.com/swap/index.php?action=main You'd see "FinerKitchens.com Recipe Swap" and "FinerKitchens.com Recipe Repository" (or whatever!). The Swap could be for new recipes and ongoing discussions, and the Repository could be for re-posting the old ones, but limited or no discussion. The Search would search both.

I don't really care though, you guys do it how you like; I'm just throwing it out there as an idea off the top of my head.

"Repository" doesn't sound great; I keep wanting to call it an Archive but I'm afraid that would confuse it with the archiving of THIS board. "Cookbook" maybe? I dunno.

GayleMO took it one step further and thought we could do that, but also divide it further into categories Meats, Soups, Desserts etc.

So, who is interested in doing something like that? Do you think it would interfere with having a lively ongoing discussion on the main board? Would you rather just keep one forum?

One thing I will say, the Search will probably work a lot faster if we split it up, once the forum has been here long enough to have thousands of posts.

(Editing this message to remove "probably". The Search WILL work faster if we do it this way. Long-term that is; for now, it won't make a difference.)

That's what I was thinking, Mimi....

When we dig our old Gail's favorites and copy and paste them here it's going to add much more weight to this site. That is why I thought having organized sections might help to find things, but maybe a search is enough. It worked fine on Gail's that way! smileys/smile.gif

The only thing is if someone has a recipe they had saved but didn't remember the posters name we might have a problem finding it again. Sometimes 'names' of recipes are lost in our memory but we remember what category it would be in.

It doesn't matter to me at all how it's done! I'm just thrilled to have a easy, workable place to come!!!

Appreciate you, my dear!!!

I like the idea of a second forum for the old swap recipes.

I think that would be the easiest way to keep this forum organized. There would of course be some overlap of the two, but the bulk could be on the second forum.

How about "Recipe Treasury", or maybe "Recipe Storage" or Recipe Cupboard" or "Recipes Only"

Or "Favorite Swap Recipes"

Is there a way we can check so we don't repost a recipe someone has already posted?

It would be a waste of space if say several people posted the ame thing.

Ok, I'm ready to do this. What categories?

Here's an idea for the categories:

Appetizers
Beef
Beverages
Breads
Cakes
Candy
Cookies
Desserts
Eggs & Cheese
Fish & Shellfish
Freezing & Canning
Pasta, Rice & Grains
Pies
Pork
Poultry
Salads & Dressings
Sauces & Relishes
Soups & Stews
Vegetables

I got this from my BHG New Cook Book. That's a LOT of cagetories. Any ideas on how to improve that? Combine Breads, Cookies & Bakes into "Baked Goods"? Pork, Beef and Poultry into "Meat"? Any other suggestions?

Mimi, I posted the Italian Feast recipes from the Group Project below, please feel free to move them

to wherever you feel is appropiate. Just wanted to get them while I could, the site is a bit flakey.

Good idea. How would we make sure that people wouldn't start posting to that board instead of...

instead of the main forum? Oh! Light-bulb. Maybe make it a non-replyable board? That way they HAVE to post on the "right" (current) board.

Otherwise, I'd be concerned that the forum would become all split up. But the idea of finding stuff we got from GRS in an organized way would be great! (Did anyone ever have much luch with the Kitchen Seek since October? I didn't.)

Sherry's Shrimp Canapes

(posted on the old Gail's)

Sherry’s Shrimp Canapes

10 slices white bread
2 T butter
½ t thyme leaves
6 oz cooked shrimp, cleaned and chopped
½ cup shredded Swiss cheese
1/3 cup mayonnaise
½ cup fresh breadcrumbs
¼ t salt ( or to taste )
Dill weed

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Using a 2 inch pastry cutter, cut 2 circles from each slice of bread. In small saucepan, melt butter, and add thyme. Brush bread circles with this mixture. Place on a cookie sheet, and bake 10 minutes, until golden. Meanwhile, combine shrimp with cheese, mayo, breadcrumbs and salt. When circles are cool, put a rounded T of shrimp mixture on each. Sprinkle with a pinch of dill, and place under broiler for about 3 minutes. (These are really good.)
