While I do see others points of view, I think that plating can be a bit powerful, if not done with the guest in mind. I agree about some meals definitely being plated, such as serving a salad and then lasagna, but please give us more bread! lol

My experience is this. We often eat at a neighbors house who is a very experienced cook, for my neighborhood! (BTW, this does not include Musiccitymissy) He plates us every time. With this in mind, he plates the same amount for everyone and he cannot understand why his petite wife can't lose weight, and why I don't eat everything on my plate. I love them dearly, BTW.

One time when their family was eating at our house, I plattered a gorgeous chicken over cous cous dish and served the green beans around it. Well...the comment was,"hmph, why did she not just plate everyone? It would have been much easier." I guess I dwell, but thanks everyone for your above opions. And remember, as you all seem to, what you say is always heard.

As you point out, sometimes the presention of a plattered dish...

would be missing if something is plated.
