Really enjoyed the book Mediterreneab Summer, enjoying the recipes too....any other suggestions...

That is an amazing read, the New York part was wild. The yacht part is why I have gone to work boats

Was exhausted reading it--the damned kids, the owner comparing the pates to cat food and???

Check this out joanie--a woman's adventure from southeast Alaska, to New York, to western Alaska. And, lots of yummy recipes!!
Now on amazon.com--The Fishes and Dishes Cookbook. I went through and read all the stories and now sifting through recipes.

Nan

Nan, can you find out from the bookseller where you got your copies signed if they will be in ANC

for a signing? I sure would love to have a signed copy---or half a dozen for gifts.

Another true story is The Animal Vegetable Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver

the story of Kingsolver and her family abandoned the industrial food pipeline to live a rural life-vowing that for one year, they'd only buy food raised in their own neighborhood, grow it themselves or learn to live without it. Part memoir, part journalistic investigation.

Very good reading and simple, healthy recipes

By the way, thanks for suggestions about good reading such as this

I'm finding, this subject about people, food and places, to be my favorite reading.

yes, another good read. I listened to it on the audio version. got a bit tired of her voice though

Been there, done that however I have not spent an

extended time on mega yachts for any one owner like he did...and the sailing part, ie heeled over, and finding storage space...well, I would so LOVE to work on a motor vessel for ever more...but that life is over pretty much now.....sadly.
For me the thrill of shopping and cooking 'a la the area' I am in with the fresh foods available is the best part of the job....I LOVED Brazil/South America as there was so much there to learn and use in my meals. I have been up and down the African coasts, all over the Caribbean but not done any extensive cooking/sailing in the Med.....how wonderful it all must be.

(My son-in-law is in and around Croatia at the mo, he has had the summer in the Med...he is a cpn not a chef but his chef does utilise what is in the markets at each ancorage. I am so jealous...green, green I'm not a queen!!)
