I found this recipe dogeared from a cooking class I took ages ago. No doubt the original recipe had more involved directions, but I don't have a copy. Made this tonight and wow. Now I know why I saved this for so many years!

by Maida Heatter
Grease 2 standard loaf pans*. Preheat oven to 350.
Mix and set aside the following:
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa
3/4 cup walnuts (finely ground in a food processsor)
1/2 cup black currants (I used chopped figs)
For the batter, cream until very light and fluffy:
3/4 cup salted butter, room temp.
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
Add:
3 eggs
2 cups sour cream
Sift and stir in:
3 cups all purpose flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
Fill pans with 1/3 of the batter, then sprinkle 1/3 of the filling, repeating layers in thirds. Bake at 350 for 1 hour.
* Mine made one large loaf.
