This is one of the very first ever recipes I made back when I was 8 years old or so. I got the recipe out of a children's cookbook from the bookmobile that visited the county seat once/month (it was such a Walton-esque life in those days). Just ran across the recipe again and thought I'd share. I remember this stuff being so amazingly good.

Chocoloate Cream Cheese Icebox Fudge

1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi sweet chocolate chips

1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese

4 c. powdered sugar

1 tsp. vanilla

1 c. chopped nuts (I always left these out)

Melt chocolate chips. Cream sugar and cream cheese together. Add to chocolate chips. Add vanilla and blend until well mixed. Add nuts. Press in 9 x 7 inch pan. Freeze until firm.

I would like this. I remember having "My First Cookbook" from Imperial Sugar

Does anyone else remember it? Candlestick Salad- half a banana standing in a pineapple ring topped with a dab of mayo & a maraschino cherry, Snickerdoodles. Those are two of the things I remember from it.

Oh gosh it reminds me of my first cookbook and what I made.....I still remember

My Mom pulled out a round cookie cutter and we made "Toad in the Hole" by cutting a round out of the center of a piece of bread, browning on one side in butter then turning over and dropping an egg in the center and cooking it. I was so proud! I was 4.

candlestick salad---made an appearance in "Secret Life of Bees"

my first food prep memories are from girl scouts. oranges with peppermint sticks poked in, then suck up the juice, no-bake cocoa cookies, donuts made with refrigerator biscuits, banana boats, grilled ham/cheese/pineapple buns.

no-bake cookies and snowball cookies- my first baking experiences
