Creamy Bratwurst Stew

4 medium potatoes, cubed

2 medium carrots chopped

2 stalks celery chopped

1 cup chopped onion red bell pepper chopped

2 pounds fresh bratwurst cut into 1 inch slices

1/4 cup chicken broth

1/4 cup light ale

1 tsp dried basil

2 cups half and half

3 tsp cold water

3 Tbsp cornstarch

salt and pepper to taste

in a 5 qt. slow cooker, throw all of the ingredients in except for the cream, water and cornstarch, cook on low for 6-7 hours or until veggies are tender and meat is no longer pink. stir in the cream. combine cornstarch and water and stir into the stew. cover and cook on high for 30 minutes or until gravy is thickend
