I've been looking for an excuse to try this one found perusing Food Network one day. Made this (from Michael Chiarello) for a brunch yesterday and people were gobbling it up.
Several reviewers on the Food Network site said it was too sweet so I did some tweaking:
Used plain cake donuts (no glaze or sugar coating). Used 3/4 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup white instead of 1 cup white. Used a heaping 1/2 cup raisins. Used salted butter for both the casserole and rum sauce. Added 1/4 cup milk to the rum sauce and drizzled over right before setting on the buffet.
It was still really sweet, but not overly so. Just perfection. (Can you tell I love donuts?)
