German Chocolate Pound

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

2 cups sugar1 cup butter

4 eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla

1 cup buttermilk

3 cups sifted flour

1/2 teaspoon Soda

1/2 teaspoon Salt

4 ounces German chocolate* -- melted

Cream sugar and shortening, add eggs, vanilla, and buttermilk. Sift together flour. soda and salt. Add to creamed mixture. Mix well. Then add German chocolate Blend together well.

Cook in 9" stem pan that has been greased and dusted with flour for 1 1/2 hours at 300 degrees.

Remove cake from oven and allow to stand for 10 minutes. Remove from pan while still hot and place under a high fitting cake cover and leave covered until cold. (I have 2 ovens, so I put the cake in the unused one until it cools.)

*Note: Recipe calls for German chocolate. I use bittersweet.
