This is from an old Betty Crocker cookbook:

1 cup cake flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

3 large eggs

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup water

1 tsp vanilla

Powdered sugar for rolling and garnish

Grease pan and line with greased parchment or foil. Heat oven to 375.

Sift dry ingredients together. In mixer bowl, beat eggs until very thick and lemon colored. Gradually beat in sugar. On low speed beat water and vanilla into eggs. Slowly mix in dry ingredients on low speed just until batter is smooth. Pour into pan and bake until top just springs back when lightly touched. (Sorry, does not give time estimate.) Loosen edges and immediately turn upside down on dishtowel sprinkled with powdered sugar. Carefully remove paper. Trim off any stiff edges. While cake is still hot roll cake and towel from narrow end. Cool on wire rack. Unroll cake, spread with soft (not syrupy) jelly or desired filling. Roll again. Sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired. Cut into one inch slices.
