I'm still trying to keep up with the sorrel. I'm lucky to have some leeks in the garden too.

LEEK AND POTATO SOUP:

(Julia Child)

Leeks

Potatoes

Water

Salt

Sour Cream or Heavy Cream (optional)

Split the leeks and rinse well under running water to remove any sand between the layers. Chop. Combine in a pot with a roughly equal amount of peeled, chopped potatoes; add water to cover and salt to taste. Simmer until tender. Puree, or not. Ladle over dried bread or serve crusty bread on the side. If you wish, dallop each serving with cream

WATERCRESS, SPINACH, OR SORREL SOUP

Add a generous amount of greens to the pot when the soup is almost finished. Simmer 5 minutes. Puree. Whisk in a little cream and/or serve a dallop of cream on top.

Joe, I've been listening to the Oct 7 archive of the Splendid table and would you believe

Julia's leek and potato soup is a recipe they give on the site. Perhaps because Julie Powell is a guest on the show. Here's the link with their versions, if you'd like to see it.

I wondered the other day if your garden was a success overall, sounds as though it has been! I bought 4 lovely little pots of arugula and dh planted them in a long planter, looking forward to lots of baby arugula this winter.

Must be a change in the weather putting hearty soup on everyone's mind...

Yes, I had a lot of fun with my garden. Most everything was a success except for my tomatoes, which were a dud. But it's in a community garden and I got a lot of the neighbors' overflow.

I'm still getting zucchini, eggplant, leeks, basil and sorrel, and I've started planting cool season things for the winter.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't Florida's growing season just starting?

Yes, I went to the farm produce stand Friday and they had

some items they had grown. By the middle of November, they should be in full swing. All their stuff is so good. I'm glad your garden was a success.

You're right, Joe. I have a craving for cabbage, potato, carrot, kielbasa

and tomato soup with loads of beans. You wouldn't want to sleep with me.
