RECIPE: REC: Mom

RECIPE:
Awesom ~ Meryl did you see the CHOCOLATE PEANUTBUTTER CAKE Recipe ? That is a MUST MAKE CAKE smileys/smile.gif

This cake is a staple in our house...

it is wonderfully moist and delicious. The only thing I do different is I use granny smith apples and don't add the nuts.

This looks good! I can't wait to try it.

The town we've recently moved to has an apple farm up the road, and I've been on an apple cooking kick the past few weeks!

Thanks!

deb, do you layer the apples like in the recipe,or just mix them in? seems like the layers would be

heavy and not let the cake rise well? Does it work just fine?

I just mix them in...

but the cake does, 8 out of 10 times, have a sunken look to it. Doesn't always look the prettiest - but the cake is so wonderful it doesn't matter. Family, friends, and coworkers swooned over it!

I made this last night----so very good and autumn-y

my tweaks were to use gala apples and 1/2 cup of light raisins. I used just 1 1/2 cups of sugar(apples were quite sweet) and 3/4 cup of oil. And, I had no A/P flour(how did that happen??), so I used 2 cups of self rising and 3/4 cup of white whole wheat. I mixed the apples with just cinnamon and stirred them into the batter. It turned out great with no sinking. I think adding rum or hard apple cider would be a good substitute for the orange juice.

Mine is cooking in the oven right now, batter was delicious ~ I could only imagine how great this

will taste

I went crazy and bought 3 dozen apples (all honey crisp) I made a batch of Richards Apple Fritters ~ extremely delicious and now this apple cake ~ the batter is delicious.

2 great recipes!!!!

And tonight I am making Oompah pah Sauerkraut and Oktoberfest Skillet (posted below) Lots and Lots of apples this week.

Who can get tired of too much apples ~ not me

Thanks for all the apple recipes

Tasty, delicious, DEFINATELY A KEEPER~ I drizzled carmel sauce on top and I miked the apples in with

the batter instead of layering it~ Meant to say I mixed in the chopped apples into the batter sorry about that

DH LOVES IT, AS DOES MY SON JOE

WHAT A GREAT WAY TO EAT APPLES

NOT OVER-POWERING, MOIST, FLAVORS ALL COMPLIMENT EACH OTHER

WILL DEFINITELY MAKE THIS AGAIN AND AGAIN

I think it is more of a breakfast cake or for an informal get-together. Ice cold milk is great with this, as is coffee (I tried both)

Thanks Meryl for this recipe I already have it printed and in a binder along with Richard's Apple Fritters which is highly delicious too
