STRAWBERRIES WITH BALSAMIC VINEGAR

2 lbs strawberries

5 to 7 Tablespoons sugar

2 to 3 Tablespoons balsamic vinegar*

Wash and hull the berrries and place in serving bowl. an hour before serving, lightly toss the berries with the sugar, giving time for the sugar to dissolve and form a light syrup. When ready to serve, add the balsamic vinegar and toss gently to combine. Serves 6 to 8.

*NOTE: You need to use a good quality balsamic vinegar in this recipe. I like Elsa "Fondo Carrate" Balsamic Vinegar of Modena. See link below and also read the customer review for additional interesting info about it.

This is great served over vanilla ice cream! I have also used it to make parfaits with alternating layers of the prepared strawberries, whipped cream and blueberries for a patriotic color theme (or use any other berries/fruit you choose). Wigs

I always splash a little into the strawberries as they're mascerating for shortcake smileys/smile.gif

Put it in a foil package and place on the grill...indirect. Pour hot over vanilla ice cream.

Oh, Michael, what a GREAT idea! I'll be trying this out for sure. Thx for the suggestion.

My Favorite trick with balsamic vinegar to add it to winter-tomato salsa. . .

I sometimes make salsa fresca or pico de gallo with those flavorless winter, store-bought tomatoes. A few drops (not too much) perks that salsa righ up.
