"Thomas and Jeremiah" was the 'formal' name for "Tom and Jerry". It is a frothy, hot drink dating from the 1800's w/ several parties claiming to be the originator.
So, Christmas Day nite, we decided to try it and all agreed that it is fabulous and perfect for the holiday season!
REC: "Tom and Jerry" A mug of holiday cheer!
1/2 cup of batter
1 oz. brandy (we substituted Baileys Irish Cream)
1 oz. rum
hot water
Ladle batter into a heated mug. Pour in liquor and then fill with boiling hot water. Top w/ ground nutmg. Let cool just enough to be drinkable. Serve w/ a spoon for stirring. For a sweeter take on the holiday drink, substitute Baileys Irish Cream for the brandy.
The batter:
Seperate the whites and yolks of 4 eggs
Whip the egg whites together w/ sprinkle of cream of tartar, until they are stiff.
Fold in 3/4 cup of powdered sugar, 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon and the egg yolks. Mix until the batter is light and frothy. Makes enough for about 8 drinks.
Warm, cozy and a perfect end to an evening in front of the fire w/ family and friends. Enjoy!
