I always wanted to taste this after reading Laurie Colwin's article about it.

One year, a neighbor who makes it every Christmas gave me one. It was so strong, I could hardly eat it - this recipe explains why! The odd thing is that her family doesn't drink at all, except for this cake.

 
Me too, Lana!!! I looked for years for *black wine* and finally ended up

Finding a bottle of “black wine” with the label of a female silhouette in the traditional pose typically seen on trucker mud flaps.

Something told me this wasn’t exactly what Laurie meant.

 
Lana, as I read the REC, I also was amazed @ the lg quantity of alcohol in this cake and that I

could probably get a DUI ticket from eating a mere one slice of it! lol..
