Except, those cheap oven thermometers are about as accurate as the oven temp gauge.
Last night, on ATK, they rated oven thermometers

I have a cheapo oven thermometer, and as Richard pointed out, I'm not sure of its accuracy. It has consistently shown that my oven runs 15º F hot.
I'll check their website. Lots of good info there, and I'm gonna guess I'm not the first person to ask that question.
