ITALIAN BREAD SALAD WITH GRILLED BEEF

This entrée salad has crunchy croutons, juicy steak, summer ripe tomatoes and greens. Serve with a frosty pitcher of iced tea.

4 cups cubed bread (1 inch) Italian, sourdough or multigrain bread

1 lb. Sirloin steak, 1 inch thick

1/4 tsp. pepper

3 cups baby salad greens

2 tomatoes, each cut in 8 wedges

8 large button mushrooms, sliced

DRESSING:

1/3 cup olive oil

1/4 cup balsamic vinegar

2 cloves garlic, minced

Pinch Each salt and pepper

2 Tbsp. shredded fresh basil leaves

On ungreased baking sheet, toast bread cubes in 350 F. oven for 10 minutes. Let cool.

Season both sides of steak with pepper. Place on greased grill over medium high heat, or on broiler pan; close lid and cook, turning once, for 10 to 12 minutes for medium rare, or until desired doneness. Transfer to cutting board; tent with foil and let stand for 10 minutes before slicing thinly across the grain.

DRESSING: Meanwhile, whisk together oil, vinegar, garlic, salt and pepper. In large salad bowl, toss together salad greens, bread cubes, steak, tomatoes and mushrooms; drizzle with dressing and toss gently to coat. Garnish with fresh basil Makes 4 servings.

I don't think that there's a prerequisite for someone to try something before we post it...

at least, that's my perception. I sometimes post a recipe just because it looks really good to me and I think someone else might like to see it too. (Like my almonds post earlier this week.)

Maybe someone higher up on the totem pole can answer this, but it is absolutely perfectly ok with me to have our group post a recipe that interests them. Most of us know a good recipe when we see it, whether or not we've actually cooked it.

 
As is my understanding from the same questions before, Olga's recipes are tried and true.

 
I was just talking about making a bread salad this weekend - now I know which one....

this will go over much better at my house with the little bit of meat in it! TIA

 
I agree 100%. Sorry if that came out wrong. I just asked...

because I have a few bread salad recipes that I haven't tried yet and wondered how she liked it. I should have been clearer. I love to see all kinds of recipes.
