recycling vs toxic waste..... I'm cleaning and organizing kitchen and pantry as there's

some pretty old stuff hanging around. there are some canned items that are over 5 yrs old and the cans look "iffy". I'm an avid recycler but not sure if I should risk opening them to save the cans?

also, I have a large can of escargots, 72 count. the can looks OK but it's a lot to use in one dinner unless there's a crowd. I'm wondering if I can and should open it, divide them and freeze? anyone?

some of the packaged goods are of undetermined age so I guess I should just dump them?

there are some can without an expire date so I'm not quite sure what to do with them. I figure the 8 yr old can of chopped clams should certainly go but should I risk opening to recycle the can?

I have a large, walk-in pantry and cleaning it sure is full of surprises '-D

TIA

hi Shaun, the smell and possible explosive reaction. don't have time to clean the ceiling smileys/smile.gif

ROTF Michael '-D intact and in the garbage it is. as I recycle every little scrap of paper,

etc, Gaia will forgive me a few cans.

and the precious escargot? these are serious good!

I'm sure you could freeze the extra escargot, since they're already cooked. Must be a huge can!

I think you're right about the bulging but, these are 6 years out of expiration and I was

concerned about smells as much as explosions. it's a big pantry and I used it to store the wrong things. some of the food items got forgotten about. I'm better off with non-perishables in there, obviously '-))

On second thought, save that one. I'm bound to make it up the coast sooner or later.

Hey, she was holding out on me? Boy, paybacks are a B****. We'll have to share those.

I was just saving them for your Dec. visit. expect copious amounts of escargots smileys/smile.gif

ONly 6 years? When my mom was ill we cleaned out the fruit cellar and found her 1956

home canned cherries! My dad wanted to keep them because they looked "alright"....we tossed the cherries jar & all!
