I've really liked most of the things I've bought at ALDI. Tonight I fixed one of the little corn bread/muffins mixes properly in a screaming hot cast iron skillet. ACK! It's SWEET! And kind of fluffy. I guess Germans don't know how Texans prefer their cornbread. It's YANKEE cornbread.

 
Ha! You got the cast iron skillet right but I like it UNsweet and crumbled in buttermilk

Actually, if you look at it from a different perspective & just don't consider it cornbread it is o.k. with butter & honey. But no self-respecting Southerner would consider it cornbread with a bowl of beans.

 
Here's one teuton with you Melissa...no sugar, hot screaming cast iron dripping in bacon fat...

that sweet stuff needs chocolate buttercream as a side and served at the end of the meal.

 
Southwesterner registering a vote for savory cornbread, here. But I won't look askance if you want

to add a chopped red pepper or green chile to it...
