Remember the expensive dried cherries and booze I was trying to save??

I just sterilized my garbage disposal with approximately $30 worth of booze the color & viscosity of motor oil.

And the saturated fruit? It was so bitter my eyes started to water, so I considered putting it out for the birds and woodland creatures. But first I'd need to establish a local chapter of the AAFA (Alcoholics Anonymous for Animals).

That's really a shame. We have always put up fresh cherries in booze. If you..

want to do that next June, I can help.

Sorry to hear.

You could have probably salvaged the thick base by adding it seltzer for drinks and the like. It would also have worked out really well as an ingredient in punches, being so concentrated, diluting it would have made it usable. I also make a cherry cordial using the Montmorency cherries from the tree in my back yard, and it is treasured. I just add vodka to the cherries, and sometimes cinnamon sticks, and rock sugar. Let it go for a couple months, strain, filter, and bottle. This too is rather concentrated and I don't normally sip it as a cordial, but do the above and add it to mixed drinks as a syrup or put it in punches. I really love making fresh fruit cordials. I just finished a pear cognac that when mixed with Bourbon, lemon juice, and honey is beyond exquisite.
