Road trip to score Rancho Gordo beans: Score!

Good guess! Yes...it's mostly traffic congestion that slows things down. I-26

and I-40 go right through town with only 1 lane for each of them when merging so that makes an ungodly mess for travelers who don't know to get in the correct lane way back there...or that this exit is suddenly on the--oh no! left side...or that their lane will suddenly disappea....

Is anyone besides me bugged by their vintage lady on their label?. . .

I don't know why but she really puts me off. She looks like she is trying to get a bad taste out of her mouth. Or she is bored and trying to get something off her teeth. Would they put a man on their label looking the same way she does?

Why, oh why does it bug me so much?

Maybe it's covid cabin fever setting in!

Not really bugged by it, but it struck me as a strange thing. I keep wondering what she is trying

convey. Here is a quote from an article written about Rancho Gordo:
"Among chefs, restaurateurs, food writers, and foodies, Rancho Gordo beans are a hot, coveted commodity. The company’s packaging – neat little bags with a red-and-white label and an image of a smirking woman, her tongue arched over her teeth, in the bottom right corner – is now iconic."
I have given a link to the article which is a good read about Rancho Gordo.

I buy directly from Rancho Gordo, Napa is not far from us, and if I order early enough and the beans

are in season, I usually get my order within two weeks. They are very busy especially now with the Covid event, no doubt short-handed. I enjoy his newsletters and the recipes are always fun and timely for the season.

Ha, never noticed it, Marg. I guess I'm always so busy looking at how beautiful the beans are

through the clear bag that I never paid much attention to the label.

Article did not give the back story about the label, and I have yet to find anything on it.

May have to email Rancho Gordo directly and inquire.

I just discovered a very long article and near the end is this comment...

"The label bore the Rancho Gordo logo, with a Mexican starlet licking her lips."

So, there it is, now to find out just who is the Mexican starlet! At least we know she is licking her lips, so we can imagine she loved the beans she just ate:)

I just discovered a very long article in New Yorker and near the end is this comment...

"The label bore the Rancho Gordo logo, with a Mexican starlet licking her lips." Another article from a Napa publication says, "The label bore the Rancho Gordo logo, with a Mexican starlet licking her lips is meant to be a little mysterious."

So, there it is, now to find out just who is the Mexican starlet! At least we know she is licking her lips, so we can imagine she loved the beans she just ate:)

Love Rancho Gordo - I am a bean club subscriber

That was I didn't order every variety at once. LOL The Royal Coronas are my absolute favorite especially in Marlow & Sons Brothy Bean recipe. Second favorite is probably the cranberry - just a good all around versatile bean with a good creamy texture. I made a recipe for creamy black eyed peas using the yellow eyes this week and they were good.
