Rqaq w adas: Test to see if NYTimes recipe comes through:

So I'm allowed to share 10 NYTimes articles a month. But the actual recipe they're talking about is another link inside this article. I have to use the "share this article" button to unlock the article for non-subscribers, which is the BIG url below.

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/23/magazine/lentil-stew.html?unlocked_article_code=AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACEIPuomT1JKd6J17Vw1cRCfTTMQmqxCdw_PIxftm3iWka3DODmwZiOEcDIGS-kHAIq5uYccy23GAWNJedr8zQfg4hsluA3tQcSj66J2VhMZCZCwvtYO4Wm5xjpyWALpprjOvN2foeKIiz-3g-kLXbTT1C6yL0XwhIgtioJAxZkjqjSJTvtrNG-Ry09V13_ozVNstFXpbOn7877S_AA5-Od6Gchjd9gM0PulYUjvZlteYgKkSJEQQURmVCSMivhtvrY9UK9gVP63gLhM_e8qYgb8ZCG1gLYjBFIQgh7_Vg-SaXQKY5ZkkgkRG&smid=url-share

Also, that NAME is NOT a typo nor are my fingers going spastic before coffee. That is the real name of the recipe. In Arabic, adas are lentils, and rqaq is a thin flatbread.

Could someone (someone WITHOUT a NYTimes FOOD subscription) please let me know if you can ALSO click on the link included with the article (my sad thought is that it won't.) I can't test it because I already subscribe to both the NYTimes and the NYTimes FOOD.

If you can't access the link, I'll quick-post the recipe ingredients and simple steps later in the day.

I learned that my friend's sharing her password with me meant that I am now on. I got the entire item but then looked up to see that I have an account now. Sorry I can't help but glad I tried and discovered my new status.

I can't really help to answer the question since I am a member and it would automatically open for me--as you say.

Marilyn, The Link opens, however, the link for the recipe does not.....you must sign in

Marilyn, even the recipe opened for me. I tried to open it the other day, and it was blocked as I only have the basic subscription. However, a lot of the time, if you are in Firefox and you click on the little book image in the URL box, a plain text recipe will often open.

I decided that this one was too much like hard work, delicious as it sounds..

Lana, I think NYT Food allows a small number of curated recipes to be viewed, but restricts the majority of others. I never could figure out their algorithm so I finally caved during COVID and now pay for a yearly subscription. FYI: Having a subscription to NYTimes DOES NOT give you access to their recipes...that's a whole 'nother subscription.

The recipe is fussy, but I have all the weird ingredients (pomegranate syrup, tamarind) so I'm going to try a modified version (ie: use pasta instead of the first step. Use leftover naan bread instead of the flatbread). I will be skipping the fresh pomegranate seeds as they just annoy my teeth. There is a reason I prefer seedless grapes.

FYI: Having a subscription to NYTimes DOES NOT give you access to their recipes…that’s a whole ‘nother subscription.

I think this is incorrect. I have a subscription and get the recipe app as does my daughter.

Well, it depends on the level of subscription you pay for.

Basic digital subscription (which is what I have) does not include recipes, nor crossword. I pay $4/mo for the news + $40/year for NYTimes Food >> $88 total for the year

All Digital subscription access include all NYT journalism, recipes, Wirecutter & crosswords. Last time I checked, it was $17/mo >> $204 for the year.

I'm fine with my option.

The link got me the article, but doesn’t open the link to the recipe. Try opening the recipe link and see if it gives you the option to gift that.

With my get it through library online subscription, I can gift 10 articles too, but of course it doesn’t give me any recipe access. I can usually see a food article like this, but get blocked at the actual recipe link, like it does to me here.

It used to be like that. I originally had access with my reduced teacher subscription, but then they suddenly removed it and started bombarding me with requests to pay more. I thought they were rude to remove it without warning, and decided that I had access to enough recipes already .

The article opened for me, but the link for the recipe did not. Same as the others.
