Rusted pan...do I need to buy a new one or do you have any tips/tricks to clean it?

This is only a rd cake pan but it one of the set of my layered cake pans that were mom's before me.

It ended up sitting in water for a long while (don't ask) and now has a pretty heavy duty layer of rust.

Any ideas on how to get it off other than massive elbow grease? So far Bar Keepers Friend hasn't been too friendly with me.

I don't know, some kind of metal, not heavy, just reg ol' metal round cake layer pan

It doesn't have any marking on it and it's not anything fancy.

My DD put a very badly abused aluminum cookie sheet (that she was going to throw away)

into her selfclean oven. She said it came out spotless. Maybe you could give that a try.

I just asked my common sense, aircraft mechanic/Inspector, trouble

shooting genius guy that I live with what to use and he said....wait for it...$10! Seriously, he said...buy another one. I laughed hysterically! Funniest thing I've heard all day. Why do you think I've been married to him for 42 years? He makes me laugh!

My oven is self clean as in me, but oven cleaner might be soemthing to try.

I bet I have some. Didn't want to have to go buy a whole set of new pans because I ruined just one. Plus I think of my mom every time I use them (I know, I know...it's sappy but true.)

I'll give that a try!
