Sandwiched IKEA Oat Krisp Cookies (Oat Flakes) & Dyslexic Bittersweet Sauce are a success.

I just returned from IKEA. It is quite a hike for me, but wanted to get some scandinavian

"stuff" for Christmas morning. My family is from Danmark, so it is quite a treat to have the meatballs, Herring, lingonberry jam, asst desserts, etc. Nothing like it is in copenhagen, but still works for us. I did not see those cookies. I was a little disapointed they did not carry the SKOR chocolate covered brittle. Oh well.

We have moved away from getting EVERYONE a present to having a fun game. Each adult brings something from $25-$35. Really helps w/ the stress and finances. Last year I purchased a bunch of stuff from Omaha Steaks, that went over really well. Everyone was trying to "steal" it. This year, I am going to make a big basket of Scandinavian food. I am sure it will be enjoyed by both the scandinavians as well as the Hungarians!! : )

Sorry I missed out on the cookies. Will keep an eye out for them next time! : )

Dawn, I originally created the sauce after "misreading" two other recipes.

I transposed words and quantities and skipped several critical instructional steps.

Basically, I had a difficult time "reading" what was right in front of me. So when fate handed me a rather tasty sauce regardless of all my errors, I dubbed the final result "Dyslexic" Bittersweet Chocolate Sauce.

Bummer, I bought mine at World Market. They're out now. I searched IKEA

and see it online and I had bought this same box there a few years back. So, no go? Or you just don't have those stores??

we don't have those stores up here and IKEA won't ship to AK, at least not much if anything.

I don't think World market ships either. might be wrong on that. I can always try Amazon, or just find a good substitute, or bake some up---sounds very similar to Sandi's lace cookies.

I've been trying to find the recipe, but can't find any with the ammonia rising agent.

Here's the list of ingredients from the World Market version (Nyaker's Oat Flakes)

Sugar
Vegetable Margarine (oil and fat)
oatmeal
wheat flour
egg powder
baking powder
ammonium bicarbonate

I think Marilyn's Ikea cookie is the same one I was trying to duplicate!!!

When we went on trips where there was an Ikea, I always used to buy that thin oatmeal cookie, and I can't remember if it had chocolate in it or not. I thought it did.

And then, one fateful day, I tried that lacy cookie recipe, and BINGO! It was as good as my memory of that Ikea one! I never had to go back to Ikea again! (We could never buy any furniture there, since they don't ship to Hawaii, so we just went there for the cookies smileys/smile.gif

The ingredients really do look similar. The Ikea cookie might have been just a little bit thicker than mine, that's probably because theirs has flour in it, and I think mine has a little more of a toffee-ish flavor, but that's a good thing smileys/smile.gif

Funny. And is the posted recipe (whever it is) the "incorrect" one?

If it's yummy, probably so...) Thanks for the reply!
