- Supposed to attend a BYOC party last night. Basically, you bring the cocktail / ingredients / recipe and an appetizer. We are very low key in our neighborhood, share the party, as opposed to having someone responsible for all. Anyway, dh was traveling last week, and returned from Calif under the weather. We had to bail out at the last minute. SO, I have roasted Garlic w/ blue cheese and the mediterrainean goat cheese appetizer in my fridge.

- Was responsible for making a dessert for evening pot luck (new friends). My family laughs, because everyone knows I am not a baker, and really don't eat desserts. Have Derby pie in the oven. Very easy, will report back how it goes over.

- Wearing my stylish cowel (or cowl) not sure of spelling, sweater today for the party. Think back to when I wore this on Thanksgiving.... ; ) Anyway, working w/ flour and wearing black does not go over well. Flour all over my "cool" outfit!! : )

- Have been pricing Beef tenderloin, ($16.00 / lb!), so decided on beef bourgenion for Christmas eve. Made it 2 weeks ago, huge hit (Tx for the rec / advise) Now, beef tenderloin is on sale this week for $6.00 / lb. Rethinking Christmas eve re: beef stroganoff...

- No popcorn at the Stop and Shop today. dh will be sad : (

- Oh, and I have all the ingredients for non-alcoholic mojitos in the fridge, because we did not go to the party. I get a really bad headache if I drink anything other than wine. This is a fun drink especially during the summer. (But, I find it refreshing anytime!)

Sat Six

1. made a sourdough boule with parmiggiano & Manchego cheese. Winner....

2. of course, began the winner recipe with a major boo-boo, by measuring all ingredients (except levain) wrong, and having to start all over. Typical of Sally. Bummer....

3. Cleaned and polished the kitchen trash can, looks like new (can you say neat freak having some twisted fun?)

4. reduced pomegranate and orange juice to make a glaze and braising liquid for a chicken dinner tonight (recipe from One Pot Meals publication from Fine COoking)

5. Planned my dinners for this week

6. Wrote a blog post to go live sometime mid-week.

Life is good. But I am a little tired now.... and still have to go to the lab after dinner (sigh)

Could definitely be....

....as I don't do that well when temperatures are below 60F

ANYWAY, it turns out that I had to do a new login for the new site -you know, the beta one, because it would not accpet the old login. Now, for some reason this forum is kicking me out all the time, and only accepts the cold Sally.

go figure

Oh yeah!

I am not sure I'll be able to do it before Wednesday, so that I could catch next week Yeastspotting event, but definitely some time next week.

Phil polished off the last slice, so this one we were not even able to freeze for later, it was really tasty

Cindy, do you have Hamelman's "Bread"? If you don't, you NEED it. You are more than ready for it, his formulas are amazing, I haven't had a single so-so recipe from his book

Rec: Derby Pie; huge hit last night. Was asked more than once for a cc of the recipe

I served it "warm" (I think it cooled for about an hour). It had a very fudgy cookie texture. The second one cooled all day (I made 2; one for the party and 1 for my parents and in-laws to split), theirs cooled completely. Theirs had a texture of a really dense chocolate chip cookie. It was super easy and worked for me!

Enjoy!!

Derby Pie

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup self-rising flour
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (I used walnuts)
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 stick butter, melted and slightly cooled
10 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips (I used dark chocolate)
1 tsp vanilla
Graham cracker crust (I used store bought)

Preheat oven to 325.
Mix flour and sugar, set aside.
In a seperate bowl, add nuts, eggs, butter, chocolate chips, and vanilla. Mix gently;
Add flour/sugar mixture.
Mix until completely combined.
Pour into crust; bake 1 hour. Cool completely.
