Saturday Six

1. We went out for Thai food for dinner, last night, and wandered around in the cold for a few minutes, looking for the original restaurant, Wondee Siam--then had to give up and go with their so-popular-we-had-to-open-another-branch place, Wondee Siam II. Good green curry and Pad Thai.

2. Toasted brioche, jam, and espresso for breakfast--while looking out at the snow. smileys/smile.gif Perfect winter Saturday morning.

3. Lunch is low-effort, this weekend: pork chops, rice, salad. Boring, but I don't have the energy to go nuts every weekend for lunch (which is our big meal).

4. Dinner, I'm more excited about: white pizza with pesto. Depending on how much sleet there is, I may go out in search of better mozzarella...

5. Friends of ours are looking at this espresso machine. Seriously. I don't understand, apparently because my coffee geekdom is of a far inferior nature. (Fine by me!) I mean, what kind of espresso do you put in that thing?! Gold-plated?

6. Hope folks in the Pacific Northwest are all warm and dry, and have enough to nibble. smileys/smile.gif Hang in there!

Oh my....my coffees twice a week are a real treat and I am not about to make them at home

much less spend money on a 'one use only' appliance like that which would take up valuable counter space. Sounds like conspicuous consumerism to me.Of course, if they are really coffee aficionados, then maybe it is worth it to them.

Weekend six

Went to a birthday party for my 3 yr. old grandson on Friday.
1. Finished book I wrote for him while taking care of my 2 granddaughters as my daughter was stranded in London.
2. Finished the birthday cake - made several
building block towers from the different block shapes he uses and placed them on another cake base. It was colorful and successful.
3. Made zuccini and rice casserole for same party.
4 Brought along apricot cornmeal biscotti that I made earlier.
5 Attended a party on Saturday celebrating the
birth of a grandchild of a friend of mine. Ate
too much!! The outstanding thing was a meat cabob wrapped in a paper thin slice of beet. I
am still trying to figure out how they did it so well.

Sounds like a relaixng Saturday Six, Erin!

My six:

-Will have to find our $10 espresso "machine". It's very low-tech, but makes great espresso, and for the number of times I have espresso in a year (not many), it's fine.

-Came across my pesto that I made in late-summer in the freezer on Friday night and tossed some with some linguine, Parmesan/white sauce, walnuts, and some homemade sun-dried tomatoes. Sounded good at the time, but it seemed to lack something. Any suggestions on how to make it pop? TIA.

-Did make fantastic cabbage rolls last night using cheapo tomatoes though. Brrr, winter has finally hit Syracuse and it seemed like a cozy, comfy meal to make.

-Birthday cake-shopping today. I don't feel like baking, decorating, etc. when everyone loves the store ones anyway. Fine by me.

-Bought Kurt-eez's muffin-mix-in-a-can (or whatever it's called) yesterday. All you do is add water and shake. I think I can handle that, although it seems like the height of laziness, like Bisquick pancakes in a bottle. Can I find someone to eat them for me? Will make them later on in the week.

-We went to watch the Polar Bear swimmers yesterday at a local Winter Weekend. I'm still shivering, just thinking about it. People who dive into a river when it's below freezing - why don't they all have heart attacks?! Great chilly chili. I think the winner had pineapple in it. Or mangoes. Or something fruity. Must try next time we have chilli.
