Saturday Six

1. Half of an excellent bulgogi sandwich for lunch today (sorry, cheating), from a little Korean bakery next to the Manhattan School of Music.

2. Pan-fried trout with almonds and lemon, last night, for dinner; rounded out by rolls, salad, and Brie.

3. Went out for coffee with J. for 35 minutes yesterday while my brother and his fiancee babysat. A near-date, I guess. At least the latte was very good, from a place a few blocks away. A Columbia student stared at us from outside for fifteen minutes, willing us to leave so he could use our table. (The place seats about six.)

4. Discovered that the little deli near us does a decent chicken parmesan sandwich, which I read off their menu board as "Chicken Fillet Parmesan," and they looked at me like I'd just landed from Mars.

5. Trying to sort out Thanksgiving--my brother volunteered to host it with his fiancee, and then they must have realized how much work they were looking at, because they announced that they intended to pick up the meal from somewhere. So now I'm trying to regain control of it... I think they're intimidated because they've never done it before, but it's possible to do it (for five people) with a minimum of effort. I did Thanksgiving for 12 when I was 8 months pregnant! (My mother pointed out that this was slightly different than hosting it with a toddler around.)

6. Trying to decide if dinner will be pasta e fagioli, or a lazy variation of Chicken Cordon Bleu. It's incredibly foggy here, but warm, so while it looks like soup weather, it doesn't really feel like it. Decisions, decisions...

Happy weekend. smileys/smile.gif

Sunday Six

1. I am home today cleaning my house. What a disaster. Little by little it is becoming back to normal.

2. We are solidifying our Thanksgiving Day menu. I have been requested to bring the Cabernet Cranberry sauce. My mother-in-law adores it. She makes creamed onions for me. smileys/smile.gif

3. I have to give my son a haircut with the clippers. He says it takes too much time to comb it and it sticks up in the back. Sheesh.

4. I am making some navy bean soup and I am going to make some English Muffin Bread in a little bit. Money is really tight and I am cleaning out the pantry and fridge dinners.

5. My broken arm is healing nicely. I am supposed to go to physical therapy, but I am doing it myself. Ouch!

6. Nice day at home today, even if I am cleaning. I work weekends and miss spending quiet time with my family.

Sunday Six

Best. Day. Ever.

1) Seahawks KILL it and the 49'ers blow their lead and lose in the final 3 seconds. Football heaven.

2) Made soup AND updated blog. Thanks again to magnoliainchicago for her dad's soup.

3) Made baby back ribs, green beans, and lemon-feta pasta shells for dinner. Family loves me.

4) Made ranch dip for this week's lunches because teenagers threatened rebellion if they saw one. more. sandwich. Veggies and dip for the win.

5) Baked Oatmeal Raisin Cookies from two different pinterest recipes. Turned out exactly the way I like them... lacy thin with crispy edges and chewy centers. Big plump raisins. Yum!

6) Best yet. No bra alllllll day. Yay!

E, perhaps your Bro was just trying to manage your expectations, that T-giving

would not be they way you have prepared the family traditional menu. Not a bad thing, in fact, I would imagine it is quite expensive. BUT, perhaps, he was just "letting you know" he may still want to have it. I wish my sis or BIL would take on a holiday; I would even smile to sub sandwiches!

We went to the guggenheim on Sat night, followed by dinner at Gina's. Is that near you? When we were on our way home, dh mentioned that he thought there was a Hungarian Bakery nearby. It was a quick, spontaneous trip; otherwise I would have reached out.

We're up near Morningside Heights/Riverside Dr. The Hungarian Pastry Shop is near St. John

the Divine, about a twelve-minute walk from us. So we're on the other side of the park (and then a ways north). You were closer to Sandra. smileys/smile.gif But I'm glad you had fun! Good exhibit?
