Saturday Six

Greek Festival in early afternoon, worked in afternoon to 10pm. (it feels good to say that).

DS and I picked mulberries this a.m. I thought of Steven in LA and how he'd just loooove to join us!

Will have to make mulberry muffins sometime tomorrow - I haven't baked in a while.

Trying to decide what I can make to have as leftovers instead of boring sandwiches and/or ordering in or going out to a fast food place for dinners on the days I work. I have good intentions, but the leftovers I'm bringing aren't that appetizing when everyone else is ordering in. I do have access to a refrigerator and also a microwave, so there is really no excuse.

Sunday plans are to cook a pork roast with roasted mustard potatoes, Brussel sprouts with toasted walnuts and feta cheese, and tomato salad with basil from the backyard.

Must get back to the Y! Soon.

Weekend Six

Had a great breakfast yesterday, I fried up 3 egg sized potatoes in olive oil and scatterd several green onions chopped across the top. A friend gave me eggs from a farm so I fried up two, put all the taters and eggs in a flat bowl and had a great feast!

I got up early bcause I had a temp job, to format a slide deck, in my pjs! Nice to make a little money during a normally fallow time.

We are having a heatwave, it was 84 by 11:00 am which is crazy hot for SF. I headed to Anna's beach house to cool off and it was 80 there! It's like LA weather, man, how nice! Sat in the yard with a cold beer until it was dark.

Dinner last night was great, sauteed cabbage with onions and cranberries and sauteed red peppers and onions (separately) and we shared a bockwurst and a bratwurst. Anna has this amazing Russian mustard that clears the sinuses and we pied everything into pretty rolls. I received a pack of rolls free from Natures Pride, yum! I don't usually buy things like that.

This morning: sunshine and more heat. I'm making espresso and soon we will have eggs and steak strips and more rolls!

I knitted two dishcloths yesterday, they're so cute! I think they would be better in the shower though. I had some great cotton yarn in my yarn stash, lavender and rose pink. I'm going to try one out shortly!

This afternoon I'm supposed to go to the Mission with friends to nosh our way through the neighborhood. I think I'll go for ice cream but I don't want to spend a lot of money on food, ya know? But it should be fun, despite the heat. On the agenda is a burrito place, 2 ice cream shops, a pie shop and a bakery that makes salsa and chips, and the bacon maple latte place.

Monday I am giving another ferry building tour. And I have an interview for a long term temp job, across the GG or I could take a short term temp job back at the last place I temped, and not have to pay for a commute. How nice to have something lined up!

Sunday Six

I will be picking up my health permits, finally, on Monday.

I should have been picking them up last Friday, but my stepdaughter went into labor and delivered a healthy baby girl, 8lbs 11 oz and 21 inches long.

The parents witnessed the delivery and was handed their dream, a child of their own. (my stepdaughter was a gestational surrogate for them). A true miracle to watch.

Planning out my menu for the Wednesday FM...yay!

Finishing up my menu for the baby shower next week.

Trying to figure out what to make for dinner. I have 4 large bone-in chicken breast halves. I want to save 2 to make a chicken pasta salad tomorrow.

Yippee! And now the hormones go into overdrive. How does she

feel about giving the baby up? I imagine it must be difficult. Good luck with the baby shower - different baby, I'm guessing?

Also the Farmer's Market - strawberries there yet? How about Chicken Dijon for the chicken breasts? I made that the other day and had forgotten how good it is. Nice and tangy.

Weekend Six

Honestly, I don't remember much of this weekend already.

1. Saturday I went to a local Farmer's Market and bought some organic greens, a loaf of white bread from an Amish family (Anna's Kitchen), and a couple of coconut macaroons. It was so $#@! hot and humid I really couldn't concentrate on the food.

2. Saturday night we went to a strawberry festival--cake, ice cream, and strawberries. Liam had his first pony ride and did really well (Andy held onto him, of course).

3. After dessert, we got dinner (yes, a bit backwards). Five Guys cheeseburgers and fries. I think I could eat a cheeseburger every blessed day.

4. Tonight will make a salad from my organic greens and add in raspberries, walnuts (or pecans), cucumbers, bell peppers, goat's cheese, and roasted chicken. I hope Andy gets back from the store soon--I'm hungry.

5. Also, I want a nap.

6. Oh, last night at 11:30 pm I remembered I was supposed to bake again for church today (recall last week's coffeecake debacle?). So, I was too tired to bake so this morning I got grapes, strawberries, and donut holes. Church HAS NO AIR CONDITIONING so we all sweltered.

Yeah, congrats. Hot yes! Stayin' in w/air on. Dawn, slide deck = Powerpoint presentation...

at least in my world that's what it means. smileys/smile.gif
Stay cool, it's almost midnight and the air conditioning just kicked back on.

She is great with it.

Since there is no genetic conflict, there has never been any confusion to my stepdaughter's brain about who's baby this actually is. She and the couple became so close early on, she made sure there was no confusion in her head or the parent's.
They are such a lovely couple. We have adopted them. The emotions in that room the second she was born; amazing. She went right into the arms of her birth (?) mother, and she cut the chord.
It was a very hard pregnancy for my stepdaughter, so she/we are all glad it is over.

I share your love of hamburgers. Love 5 guys, too. As for the coffee cake, it could have been worse

It could have been Liam's favorite comfort toy left on the car and lost. Been there, done that. Not good.

Indeed.

A friend told me that she once left a friend's pottery bowl on her car and did the same thing. She then found out that the bowl had been a wedding gift to the friend from the friend's parents. Yikes.

I know. And the hospital and staff were fantastic.

They knew the situation, and bent over backwards to make sure everything went well. Adoption papers and court hearings had to go through, and all offices were fantastic. Baby and parents went home together tonight for the first time.
I am so proud of my stepdaughter. There were a couple times when I so wanted to laugh during labor, because she was the spitting image of her dad, Bub, but I know women in labor, and didn't want to go there. Maybe that is why I adore her. She is my hero.
