I gained 5 lbs just reading your post ;o) My Six are:

Lizzy, I've gotta ask: you're looking for bowls, "white ones without the lions", is there a story behind that? I snickered when I read it.

- 'Missed the Oktoberfest this weekend, but there's another one next weekend too, so...

- DD and I made crabapple jelly before the bees got them

- I am hooked on taro flour pancakes, and happy to learn that they're high in fiber

- 'Meeting an old friend for breakfast an hour or so north, tomorrow; should be fun and will be nice to get away - leaves are beginning to turn, and it should be a pretty drive

- I can't get excited about cooking now that I'm not eating as much; it's difficult looking for low-carb, but still "interesting/good" food. I bought soba noodles to go with a new Asian chicken recipe I am making tommorow. That's exciting, right? ;p

- Oh yeah, I did make mustard/pickled cauliflower and Dawn_MO's lentil salad, just to have them on hand for lunches and/or an easy side dish this week.

My six........or however many

Thursday night,my son came home from Amsterdam with smoked eels, Scottish smoked salmon (big deal for me since we only get Norwegian and I don't eat it), herring, and caviar.
Had one little bit for breakfast since I was fasting for Yom Kippur from Fri. night to Sat. night.
Friday I made roast beef, baked potatoes and green beans for the pre fast dinner.
I also made tuna croquettes (will post recipe later today) for DH to snack on on Sat. since he
can't fast.
Best was break fast - started with challa and
a piece of eel, then caviar, then some of the roast beef also.

Now on to planning the next holiday meal - Wednesday night. Has to be kosher since my d-i-l's parents are coming and should be casserole type as that is typical for this holiday.

Oh yes Elaine, Scottish smoked salmon rules. I also love herring. Your

son went all out bringing home those goodies, but I'll pass on the eel...

LOL, Dawn, no real story...

I just like very simple dishes without embellishments. Saw some Apilco French onion soup bowls at WS...$30 each!!! So may have to break down and buy the ones with lions from Sur la Table...so much less expensive.

Oh, now I'm going to have to search for Scottish smoked salmon!!!

How does it differ from Norwegian? Love smoked salmon, and would be thrilled to sample the best!

Lizzy, it's just so much better and it also has to do with the flavor

of the smoked process. Beware of packages labeled Scottish salmon in some stores as it's sometimes not a product of Scotland but a salmon from another region and is supposedly smoked in the Scottish way. There's all kinds of smoked flavors such as Irish, etc.

It's quite expensive but if you buy a pound online, it goes a long way. My Dad sent me a pound from Assouline & Ting (now closed) and it was awesome. I've had some in Scotland too and there's just no comparison to others I've tried.

You may be able to find it in a gourmet shop near you.

If you tasted the smoked eel you would not pass!! The discussion on the salmon was

fascinating to me - I actually don't eat the Norwegian because of ideology - the Norwegians are one of 3 countries still killing whales. Sorry if this is not an acceptable comment here but it is true.
