Saw this window pane cookie made on TV yesterday. Stunningly simple but you can see right thru

smileys/smile.gif These 'glass pane' cookies have become kinda popular too!

You are too kind Marg!

Although I've gained some level of competence in a few types of decorated sugar cookies, I've barely scratched the surface on what I'd like to accomplish. Unfortunately what others might accomplish in 2 or 3 tries takes me 10 or 11. And I have a constant tremor in my hands which makes some lettering and detail darn close to impossible for me. To top it off I'm not the most patient of people while cooking/baking (and this is a vast understatement - LOL). But I'm not giving up!

The colored versions are easily achieved by smashing Jolly Rancher hard candies, laying the cookie

(already baked and with center hole cut out) on a piece of aluminum foil and filling the hole with the crushed candy. Bake for 5 minutes. The candy melts into a solid sheet of color.

From a GBH perspective, Jolly Ranchers start to dissolve and melt down the side

of the house after a week or so. It was a bust since the house had to stay on display for 5 weeks. Brach's hard cinnamon and butterscotch (red and gold colors) lasted the full display time. I only used JR the first year, but their colors were the best.

I used to make these years ago with my kids...

and we used crushed life savers.

I don't remember a problem with the candy melting or doing anything untoward after coming out of the oven.

judy, I think my "running Jolly Rogers" had more to do with Florida humidity. And it did take

a week for it to start seeping.
