Search option with conditions?

Is it possible to do a search and restrict it to going after only recipes put out there by one poster? Example, I can frequently remember WHO posted something I am looking for, but haven't figured out yet how to indicate a user name while using the Search option in order to limit the number of HITS I receive. TIA! Wigs

unfortunately the answer is yes and no. You probably don't want the technical answer so simpler version is that the site currently has three search methods. None of them work ideally. I've been trying to create a separate search utility that will be more efficient and faster but it has had mixed results. So the Search, filtered by individual User, is definitely something that I have wanted to implement.

Here is what you can do currently:

OPTION A:

1) In the Testing forum there is a link to the new search. or here direct: https://recipeswap.org/fun/test-search/

2) the last one of the test searches, has some (sort of) filter-by-user logic.

3) try a search where you include the thing that you are searching for plus the nickname/username of the person you are hoping to find in your search results. So example:

wigs couscous

OPTION B:

for the person who you want to search, go to their profile page. Just click their name in the forum. For example if I click "wigs" I get here:

https://recipeswap.org/fun/members/wigs/

Then on their profile page you can click the Discussions tab for all the threads they started. Or the Replies tab for all of the replies they have made to any discussions.

That worked swell! Question #2: Where do I find a list of all the posters' user-names in case I have forgotten someone's precise exact handle?

Been meaning to ask...I can NEVER get the Search option at the TOP of the page (next to the letterbox and bell icons) to return anything. What am I doing wrong there?

@marilynfl that search works but it is REALLY slow. That is why I've been trying to build out the alternative version. Probably what is happening for you is that the search hasn't completed. You may literally have to wait 30 seconds or more but eventually it will return something if you don't navigate away.

Oh, good grief! It was right in front of my face. Again, thanks a million for your reply. wigs

What am I doing wrong with trying to find a post MarilynFL wrote about caramelizing onions by using a CrockPot?

I have tried:

marilynFL Caramelized onions

marilynFL CrockPot caramelized onions

Both of the above with the topic first and MarilynFL written in the second position

NO LUCK finding the post I know it out there! Thanks in advance for your assistance on this.

@wigs in this case I think it is because it doesn't exist. I went directly into the database and did not find any posts by Marilyn with a recipe for Caramelizing onion in the crockpot. There was one reference from her in a thread about oats in the crockpot where she said that onions could be done in the crock as well but that was the extent of it. That is all I could find from Marilyn. There is a thread on this topic here: https://recipeswap.org/fun/forums/discussion/the-truth-on-caramelized-onions-and-the-lies-contained-in-lots-of-recipes-except-for-richards/page/2/
