Serendipity Punch, or How I came to love Harry Potter's Pumpkin Juice...

Grandmunchkin's 10th birthday party is in the books and was a resounding success. Her School for the Creative and Performing Arts classmates all came in their Gryffindor House robes and colors and all had to enter through the door disguised as Platform 9 3/4 where they were plied with enough Cauldron Cakes, Chocolate Frogs, Butter Beer, Jelly Slugs, Bertie Bott's Every-Flavor Beans (and why were all the vomit flavored beans all over the floor???) and Pumpkin Juice to send them into sugar comas for the rest of the weekend. They got to go into Gringott's Bank and try to come out with bags of Galleons, Sickles, and Knuts and then they got to go to Olivander's Wands where their wands "chose them." And then the fun started, watching these brilliant kids playing with their wands, watching them putting spells on each other (remember, these kids are in theatre arts--it got quite elaborate), and then watching them do math problems on the dry erase boards and explaining "the science" behind the spells. A great group of 10 year olds...

But the reason for this post: The Pumpkin Juice already!

One of my assignments was to create a Pumpkin Juice for the party. I looked on line, saw the awful recipes for swill passing as pumpkin juice, and decided I could do better. I did. It was amazing. So amazing, it's now a house punch recipe. The first sip, I said: "Wow! Can you imagine this with a little rum in it?"

And so it was.

So here's the new recipe for Harry Potter's Pumpkin Juice, that also moonlight's in Opa's Punch Bowl as "Serendipity Punch" or, the Pumpkin Juice that Came in from the Cold...

For 1 gallon Pumpkin Juice/Serendipty Punch:

1-two quart container of Trader Joe's "Dixie Peach" Juice (a mixture of peach nectar, apple and pear juices)

1/2 gallon of lemonade

1 cup apricot preserves

1 cup canned fresh pumpkin

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1 tsp. cinnamon

Combine preserves, pumpkin, vanilla, and cinnamon in a blender. Add enough peach juice to fill half way. Process until all is combined well. Pour into 1 gallon container. Add remainder of juices, stir/shake to combine. Refrigerate for 24 hours.

It tasted good when I made it, but the next day, wow, totally transformed.

To turn into Serendipity Punch: Add Pumpkin Juice to punch bowl with a large block of ice with one bottle of Flor de Caña 7 year rum (or your rum of choice). (gallon and a quarter of punch)

Optional: Add 1 bottle dry champagne for festive bubbles. (gallon and a half of punch)

We will be serving this in the punch bowls this coming Thanksgiving.

Prost!
