Shopping Damage Report (SDR): Look what I found!...now can someone tell me how it works?

I was at GW the other day and picked up a copper fondue set (almost new/with all it's parts), came home and found out it's from WS and sells for...holee crap...$370 (on sale for $319 - this year's WS version has a slightly different style from this last year model, same brand/made in Italy, but actually like this one better!). I paid $9. $9! Got a matching oval casserole dish/server for $6. Twirl!

Now, though...can you tell me how it works? There are 2 small pan like items I can't figure out what they are for. Clearly there is the bottom/top of the burner thing, but then there are two other pan like things you'll see in the following pictures that I don't know what they're for -- any ideas?

Also the burner thing does not look like a can of sterno would fit, it's too shallow. What/how are these used?

These are the two pan things (both same size) - anyone know what they are for?

See it doesn't fit in the burner

The burner thing seems fine on it's own

As you can see one of those doesn't fit in the burner section:

I haven't cleaned it yet, but here's the whole thing

Mine didn't come in a box, but found what that looked like on ebay

http://i788.photobucket.com/albums/yy163/4ebay_bucket/personal/copperfondue.jpg

It's clearly marked both Ruffoni and Williams Sonoma (made in Italy). It also came with a Ruffoni Copper Fondue Pot brochure. Looks like it might've been used once or twice with some chocolate.

I believe one is for snuffing the fire

maybe the other is to rest your forks like a spoon rest?

You come up with the best bargains!! In my sterno, I have a "smaller" one that is used to just

stop the flame. But, it seems like your smaller one is more of a donut?

You will have such fun with it! Any chance it is used for the cheese? or a holder for the skewers? I doubt it, just wondering. OR, perhaps they really don't go with the set?

No matter what, it looks like great fun! Let us know what you make in it!

I think it's for liquid sterno. Our set has that also. We use the cans instead.

Congratulations on a really great deal!

Goodwill! I also got that CI cookbook and a couple of others (here's the casserole dish)

that were brand new that I'm going to gift. I like to go there to look for inexpensive baskets for holiday food gifts and sometimes check out if I'm dropping off. I also come get a plate here if I'm going to a potluck and don't want to deal with bringing the plate/platter home. Nice presentation, no plastic/zero waste and leave it for someone else to use.

Snagged this casserole dish/server too, which will work fine as an open dish, but is missing the lid - wondering where I might look for that. I'm guessing it 1.5 or 2 qts.

I have no idea what they are for, but they look like they match the burner

they are round in shape so holding the forks doesn't seem right...wait, just tried it as a burner cover -- and it fits perfectly. And matches. I don't know why they're two, maybe to help keep them from getting so hot?

but yay -- think we figured it out!

Also, I think I was the only one shopping - others were "pickers"

clearly looking to resale. I've shopped GW for years off/on and really noticed this (went to 2 stores and saw it at both) as a new trend. I'm guessing it's The Economy.

My sister is small & has a very nice figure. She buys almost all her clothes

At Goodwill, thrift stores & garage sales. You wouldn't believe the designer clothes & shoes she has. Some things still have original tags and have never been worn.

The "burner thing" is, I believe, for denatured alcohol, which

you can of course pick up at Williams Sonoma, or SurLaTable, or other sources. Or it could be for fondue burner gel. And I think the "spoonie things" are for extinguishing the flame. See if they don't fit nicely over the top of the flame set to cover the holes to extinguish the fire.

Why don't you pop into the Williams Sonoma near you, with your sweet acquisition, and ask them all your questions. I'm sure they'll help you out.

Just like a fondu pot. The liquid fuel goes into the bottom container. Then you can control

the size of the flame by turning the handle to change the size of the openings. It just adjusts the volume of air going in. I would practise this a few times before using it for real as it looks as though yours has only one handle. The ones I use have 2 handles that turn against each other to open and close the holes, but it looks as though yours sort of hooks onto the base instead and has only one handle. Am I seeing that correctly?

The other larger gadget is just for slipping on top to snuff out the flame if you can't put it out by turning the other gadget.

Looks beautiful!! What a deal.
