Sigh. some nights I'm just off my game, everything with dinner went wrong!

My menu was simple and I was excited: roasted sweet potato fries with chipotle aioli and a buffalo burger.

So my fries got incinerated on side one in the oven, I've done them this way many times with no problem but tonight they were just black as can be in 15 minutes... Maybe my oven temp is off, after all it is the world's cheapest range in my rental unit here, must buy an oven thermometer! But I finished them anyway because it's just me for dinner and I thought aioli would take care of things. for this I admit to cheating - I blitz up about a half of a chipotle in the Mini chop with some commercially prepared mayo and a shot of lemon juice. The mayo I have is from TJ's - not Best Foods - and I guess that makes a tremendous difference. It's a new jar, and when I blitzed it, it turned into liquid soup. ewwww! so out it went. I tried it again with just a little mayo to puree the chipotle, then stirred this into mayo in another bowl, and still it was gross....

The burger I overcooked during all of this hoopla. So, (she says mournfully) I had an overcooked patty, burn fries and no sauce. Erk.

At least the beer was good!

Sigh.

tomorrow, let's see if I can make a pizza successfully!

Ah, if you can't laugh at yourself, everyone else will!! right?!! smileys/bigsmile.gif

I made a stir fry like that last night,

I had all of these fresh ingredients, lots of condiments, but it turned out okay, not great at all, but not horrible. Now tonight, my bean soup was a different story. Great!

It's that cold, Dawn! Or flu, or whatever's going around. My sense of taste has not

come back yet. Everything tastes like bland pudding to me!

Heather, 'hope you pizza turns out better. I have a lot of those days - you think something sounds great on paper, then when you make it, it's not worth the effort. And then there are other days when you think you'll just throw together something, and everyone loves it!

I had the same thing happen to me a few nights ago...

I saw a recipe called Jimmy Stewart" Favorite Pork Chops on another site. I made them along with a wild rice dish. The chops were dry and awful tasting as was the wild rice. Not wanting to waste the food I made a casserole the next night by putting the rice on the bottom, chops on top, topped off with a mix of Cream of Chicken Soup and a splash of sherry wine. I cooked for another hour and it was tolerabel, and we could finish it off. That is rare here and I hope it does not happen again soon.

My disaster- Tried to make sausage with boneless pork loin, followed a recipe (there was my first..

mistake) which called for way too much salt, even for me, a salt freak. Decided to buy equal amount of hamburger to dilute the mixture and make meatloaf/meatballs . ( I usually grind my own but as it wouldn't be rare, store bought was ok). However no matter how much soaked bread, oatmeal etc., I added the meatballs were like hockey pucks as was the meatloaf. Even cooking them forever in sauce did no good. I think the problem was that in the process, I worked the mixture too much. The only bright spot is that, since I live alone, I don't have to admit it to anyone that I actually have to look in the face.
