Silly me, I left the fridge door open overnight and am wondering what to toss out....

isn't that the stooopidist thing? smileys/smile.gif

So when I went to the fridge in the morning, the door was ajar about 3 inches and the temp inside read ~60. Most everything was not cool to the touch, darn it all.

so I'm thinking the following need to go and would love your input if you think anything else should be deep sixed?

- leftover chicken

- leftover veggies cooked

- milk

- eggs

- mayo

- chicken broth

- Odwalla protein shake - unopened

okay to keep:

- jams, mustards and condiments (capers, stock pastes, curry pastes)

- butter

- cheeses

- breads

- fresh uncooked veggies

sheesh....

hate when that happens. the eggs will be fine and the milk will let you know if it's gone...

the mayo will prob be OK but wait for more input on that. the shake hasn't been opened so that should still be fine too.

definately chuck the chicken, opened broth. the veggies might be OK if used today, depending on what they were cooked with.

BTW - eggs can be kept out for a week.
how warm did it get in the frig, any idea?

Thanks Randi, at least I don't have to toss everything!

My apartment is very overheated and it's frequently 77 or higher in there, and the thermometer in the fridge read 60 or so... smileys/frown.gif

Heather, if it's that warm, I wouldn't trust the mayo, it's not worth the risk. I had that happen

to me a few thanksgivings ago. the best turkey I ever, ever made and a big one too. put it in the frig downstairs cause we was too poooped to carve and package up after dinner. the door didn't close..... :-0

Thank you all, I think I will err on the side of caution...

lose the mayo and the milk but keep the eggs as I planned to HB them and make a quiche out of the rest (or the bacon & leek flan!).

Have a wonderful weekend all!
