Silly question? Re panini pans.....

I have a grill pan and I bought one of those panini tops to go with the grill pan. My question is, how do I heat it up? Right now I have an electric stove, do I set this top piece directly on top of one of the burners to heat it up?

And, I will be replacing the electric stove with a gas cook top by mid summer. So, do I heat it any differently on the gas burner?

Thank you!

Barbara, I have a gas cook top and that is what I do. I set it on the burners. I guess

it would be the same for electric.

For those of us without "panini pans" which in my day we called toasted sandwich makers.....

Some came with alternate plates which made waffles. Anyway, my "paninis" otherwise known as "toasted sandwiches" are made in a well seasoned black iron skillet ( a "multitasker" per Alton Brown) I weight the sandwich down with the lid of my pottery bean pot, flip it, grill on the other side and voila--simple, cheap and no storage problem.
