skyastara: How did the cherry/brownie "cobbler" turn out?

Pretty good, but I made a couple of big mistakes

I didn't have any cornstarch or tapioca so I used flour, which is usually fine but in this case I used too much. I guess my cherries weren't as juicy as I usually use? So, the filling is a bit thick and has a bit of a weird texture. Fortunately, the brownie is intense enough that you don't notice this as much as you would otherwise.

Also, the cherries I had were sweet cherries so I added the juice of a lemon. I should have added 2 lemons' worth.

It is good though, even my 8 yr old son who doesn't like chocolate likes it.

And for the "company within", my daughter read somewhere that eating chocolate during the third

trimester would make for a happier, calmer baby. I'm skeptical, but seemed to work for her, lol. She also read that the baby would like foods you eat during the last months, or something like that, she ate so many salads and vegetables, and honestly, those are his favorite foods, so...who knows?

Do you know where she read the part about the baby liking what you eat?

I'd love to know- I've been saying that for 16 years. Specifically, I have been telling anyone within earshot that I think the baby grows up to have a particular love for whatever food you most craved and ate while pregnant.

I'll have to experiment with that chocolate theory lol- it's a bit early, I'm only 22 weeks along but not too early to start my testing, I'd say!

Oh how I wish that were true! It didn't happen to me with my son - if it did, he would

be a big fan of shrimp burritos and soymilk smoothies! smileys/smile.gif

I joke that if I hadn't given birth to him, I would think he was adopted based upon his eating habits. He has an extremely limited palate, but luckily for me he likes enough things to make a very balanced diet.

Skyastara, congrats. is this your first? it's nice to see you here, I remember you from gail's smileys/smile.gif

Thank you on both counts...

I didn't think anyone would remember me but I remember most people here from Gail's. That was a long time ago lol... not sure what happened, I stopped going to all of my usual online haunts, moved a couple of times, and got an old fashioned hacker- the kind that's a live person who takes over your computer. I finally gave up on that computer entirely.

Nope, not my first, my fifth actually but I only have one at home. The others are 19, 17, both live on their own, 15, lives with his father by his choice, and my 8 year old constant companion lol.

Unfortunately, no. He actually has a sensory integration problem, so he is a very visual eater -

in the sense that he really is affected by the visual "texture" of a food, and has a physical response to the looks of certain foods.

He will not eat anything "smooshy" like pudding or mashed potatoes, pasta, etc. He doesn't eat butter if he can see it (as on toast or veggies - not a bad thing), and things like that. He will not chew gum because of the texture, either (which is fine by me!).

He eats turkey, chicken, ground beef, and pork roast (though he thinks it's chicken). He eats raw carrots, corn, green beans, and peas. For fruit he eats apples, bananas, cantaloupe, and grapes. And he is the only child I've known who eats the crust off the bread and will leave the middle. smileys/smile.gif

She isn't sure, but said she pretty much lived by a book called

What to Expect When You're Expecting" and thinks that was where she got it. I did a search and found this on line (link) that talks about the book and kind of mentions that. She doesn't think the chocolate was in that book, and it was probably on Baby Center or CNN, she uses the internet a lot for info.

wow, that's a lotta space inbetween. looks like you'll be able to get plenty of help...

from the older siblings, smart girl. smileys/smile.gif

as for Gail's, I remember someone getting their knicker's in knot over people not posting with their real names. you corrected them by pointing out your "hippie" heritage. I LOL when I saw that post!

hahaha that's right.

I prefer a peaceable existence but I'm stubborn enough to jump in when I feel it's justified. Wasn't that just after someone said you can't raise kids on 'real' food?
