So far, for me, this is the best and easiest way to open a pomegranate.

It takes a little time, but it makes hardly any mess, and works. I just pick up the wedges and pull the ariels out with my teeth. Yum!

I've tried that method but it did not work for me. I have arthritis in my hands and I

think I do not whack hard enough. However, if you do the wedges as in the video I posted, then turn the fruit over a bowl, and whack each wedge, the arils are supposed to release easily. There is a video on that method, as well.

I saw this method filmed out in a grove. This video is very clean. I'll buy one tonight to try

this method out. Thanks, Karen. I liked learning that there are exactly seven segments. That helps to know when you're done cutting.

A coworker has a tree here in Orlando, but he's been getting worms in all of them.

(I *do* like the whacking method though. It releases so many pent up emotions as well as the arils (love being able to use that word after using it in crosswords for years.))

I NEVER watch you tubes--but did this one. And it was interesting to see it. SO, I had some

poms on the counter and did it. It was substantially better and easier in some ways than whacking. Mine only had 5 segments (!).
But that you tube is exactly the reason I hate cooking ones--it took easily 10 times as long as it needed. Cut the top off. Score along the white segments. Separate, etc. DONE!!! LOL

I used to give our kids pomegranates as fun food for their after school snack. Aritichokes too. ;o) Make 'em work for their bites!!
