So here's what 1,000 6" paper bread pans look like.

A huge box was sitting outside my door today. I assumed it wasn't an illegal alien shipping himself to Florida and I was right.

Using my spiffy new scale, I weighted out 50 boxes, which equals 14 oz (well, 13.95 oz to be precise...and with this scale, I can be that precise!)

I've been toodling around the USPS.com site and for 1 pound of mail, parcel post is $3.95 while priority mail is $4.05. So that's a no-brainer. However, I don't know if they count the box weight as part of the pound...I'm assuming they do. I don't have a box in the house to weight yet..that will happen this weekend when I've got a bit more time. But I'm betting I can't find a box for 2 oz. I'm working this issue and will try to find the most reasonable way to do it.

Right now, there are 950 boxes optioned, so 50 more up for grabs. But as Dawn mentioned in the post up yonder, if someone only wants 25 rather than the 50, let me know.

Just brain storm' here. What if we all included a couple of extra dollars.....

in our payment to be donated to the "bikes for tykes" program that Marilyn mentioned in the Operation Cookie Drop thread above?

Lot O Pans

Marilyn,

I love the picture. I love the bow-front hutch and the pig inside. I love the (is it) forsythia and the spathephyllum to the left hand side?)

That’s a whole lot of pans,

Earnie

can you get pre-paid boxes at your postoffice? spose mightn't be big enough, but they're often a

good deal. great idea about the donation, i think you deserve something for doing all of this! what if we each sent you a loaf? guess that'd be 19 loaves...maybe too much? or could you manage that?

laur said to tell you that it's a "foot" of a lot better thanwaking up in the morning and finding...

the bathtub full of defrosting chickens.

whew! i thought you wanted to bake bread in them...

"we will bake bread toGEther on our knees (cha cha cha)"

((Marilyn)). I would imagine with the cost of the mailing box + postage to be near $10 per.

The box weight will be included in calculating the postage.

Without knowing the dimensions of the stack, I would guess they won't fit in the free Priority boxes supplied by the USPS, so the shipping boxes will most likely have to be purchased.

The USPS free Priority box dimensions are:

Box One: 11-7/8 x 3-3/8 x 13-5/8 inches (ideal for garments, board games, books and other relatively thin items).
Box Two: 11 x 8-1/2 x 5-1/2 inches (perfect for shoes, model cars and taller items).

There are more sizes of USPS boxes available for free

I got a number of them for eBay selling. They delivered them to my door in big stacks.

In a pinch once needing a mailing box a friend used one of the...

priority boxes by unsealing the edge and turning the box inside out, then taping the edges to seal it back up. Worked great and she was able to use the box to send non-priority. Not something you want to do all the time but good to know for times you're in a pinch.

I guess I'm the "black sheep" here smileys/bigsmile.gif >>>

Let me know what the shipping, price of the box and the total of the forms are, and I'll send you the money as soon as you let me know.

You are WONDERFUL for doing this!!!!

Hugs from Eva

PS: I have shipped tons and tons of stuff from the US, since every time I go there I tend to shop too much, and it's cheaper to send it home than to pay over weight on the plane.

I have sent it from the post office - but made sure it goes by ship/boat - not plane - as it will be a lot cheaper. It will take 3-4 weeks for them to get here (max) but that's okay. Usually I have had my stuff at my local post office in 10 days smileys/smile.gif

Actually, for one pound, your ground rate was only 5 cents more!

It's keeping the whole package to one pound that's the sticky whicket.

I'm including LLR, Dawn_NYS, Mimi, and Dawn_MO for 25 each (I know, new math...it

doesn't add up to 1000, but we'll get there.)

((Pat)) The PO is clamping down on that, unless the boxes are shipped with Priority postage paid. >

The sender can get into big trouble, and the recipients can be charged the additional postage upon receipt.
