So I broke down, and am kinda excited...I got a VitaMix!!...any favorite recipes/uses?

I got mine for my birthday on October. It's great and I love it

I joined Vitamix Enthusiasts blog group and have found lots of great ideas and recipes. I use it daily for a green/fruit smoothie. Also have used it to grate parmesan cheese, salad dressings, marinara sauce. I use dates to sweeten my drinks and they add extra fiber. I use the pitted ones and put them in a bowl and cover with filtered water or you can use coconut water. Put in frig and use 2-3 daily. The water softens them up and makes a sweet syrup.

Have fun

I'd like ideas too. Marsha has been sending me ideas (thanks Marsha!) but I'm still not using

it enough to validate the expense.

I have the dry container as well as the regular one and have just ground wheat. . .

Enough to make several loaves of whole wheat bread.

I like to use mine for broccoli soup, smooth, thick without alot of thickeners in it.

It grinds wheat?!?

I have been needing to replace my incompetent Cuisinart blender for some time now. I was looking at reviews yesterday and almost ordered a $40 Ninja. I have coveted a VitaMix for years but wasn't sure the expense was justified as I am a big stick blender fan and also have a Magic Bullet (don't laugh, it's pretty useful). Someone recently gave me some wheat that they had ground and I just made my second loaf of bread with it. It definitely tastes cleaner and sweeter but I was thinking it was not enough of an upgrade from grocery store flour to justify the expense and storage issues of buying a grinder and wheat. Now I'm going to reconsider the Ninja purchase.

Here's the one I had this morning, along with another that is really good

Banana Oatmeal Smoothie
2 bananas - best with the brown spots ( if not too ripe I add a couple of dates to sweeten)
2 cups ice
1/3 cup yogurt - I use greek vanilla honey
1/2 cup cooked oatmeal
1/3 cup almonds

Put in Vitamix with ice on top and blend. Just thought maybe some cinnamon would be good too.

Green Smoothie

1 pear, 1 1/2 cup orange juice, 1 frozen banana, 1 cup kale, 1 cup spinach, Little ice on top

Yes, it does. I did 6 cups of whole wheat "berries" and. . .

It yielded about 9 cups of flour. To do this the best way, you need the dry container and a tamper. Works fine, if noisily.

So its first use? Compost, lol

Missed the Farmer's Market yesterday/I haven't made it to the store to stock up on fruits/veggies for it yet so, today...I took all the lemon rinds I used for juicing/zesting to make cookies and turned them into compost. I poured it in my flower bed.

However, later I made soup.

Any suggestions on where to find the whole grains and which are your favorite kinds?

I was at WF today and they had the hard red winter wheat berries at $1.19 per lb in builk.

Yes, at the Costco roadshow demo I got the dry container for $80 - much less than online

I spoke to the demo person about just using the wet container and they told me

a) it will mar cloud the container with scratches

b) the wet blade pushes food down and the dry blade pushes it up, so it's really a different deal and they recommend getting the dry blade for this.

For what it's worth, I was on the fence for years about getting a Vitamix and I love it. See if there is a demo in your area. That really helped me to decide; seeing/tasting what I could make.
